Introduction

Agony's rank structure is simple and to the point. There are a minimum number of ranks possible and enough roles to keep everyone busy. The organization is intentionally flat, everyone in Agony is expected to contribute and participate. While higher ranks do have decision making responsibilities, all members are expected to give input on corporate policy and actions.

Ranks

Game mechanics dictate at least three ranks: CEO, director and member. Agony has added two additional ranks: core to cover those that have taken on roles and responsibilities for the corporation and trial for new members.

  • CEO The buck stops here.
  • DIRECTOR A minimum of three active directors each covering one of the three major time zones.
  • CORE Have taken on responsibilities/duties in the corporation. (All present Commanders and above.)
  • MEMBER Full fledged Agony member. (All present LTC's.)
  • TRIAL New recruits. (All present Ensign's and LT's.)

Roles

Those individuals that take on corporate responsibilities to provide management/co-ordination of tasks that apply to the common good of the corp. Including but not limited to:

  • Hanger Manager
  • Procurement Officer
  • PVP-U Admin
  • Shipping/Logistics Coordinator
  • POS Coordinator
  • Wiki Master
  • Mentor Coordinator
  • Awards Committee Chair
  • Flight Leader
  • Recruiter

Advisors, Administrators & Recruiters

  • SENIOR ADVISOR: forum only title that allows access to "senior" or top level discussions. Includes CEO, Directors and any other individuals that serve in an advisory capacity, including possible afg or former members.
  • ADVISOR: forum only title that allows access to leadership/management related discussions, may include afg or former members, evaluated on a case by case basis.
  • ADMIN: forum/vent/wiki group that have complete forum/vent/wiki administrative capabilities. Will handle making permission changes, adding new users, etc. Includes CEO, Directors and others as needed, the fewer the better.
  • RECRUITER: forum group that have moderator access to the applications forum. And act as formal interviewers for applicants.

Awards/Decorations/Certifications

Agony pilots that have taken certification examinations or demonstrated their skills in a specific area will be awarded certification ribbons (shown on the forum). An Awards Committee monthly reviews pilot accomplishments to determine award recomendations that are forwarded to the directors.

Becoming a Member

When a person joins Agony they are given a rank of TRIAL. A new member's trial period will last a maximum of 60 days and they will be expected to be active contributing members of the corp. To gain the rank of MEMBER a shortened certification process will be required along with the unanimous vote of the existing members (not all members are required to vote but a justified no vote is will require director review). Those trial members who do not make full member within 60 days will be removed from the corp.

Competent General PVPer and/or PVP Specialist

The bar for becoming a full member is high and requires demonstrated abilities during your trial. General PVP skills are good but Agony is looking for specialists that excel in their chosen specialty. Specialties can include but are not limited to: skirmishing, recon, interceptors, logistics, FC, ewar and capitol ships.

Fits In Agony

A very critical part is an assessment of weather the pilot fits in Agony or not. We are not looking for drama or primadonas. We are looking for people we like to fly with, that have fun and contribute.

Process To Become Full Member

During the 60 day trial, 3 full Agony members or a Director will sponsor a trial member to become a full member:

  • At least one of the sponsor will meet with the trial member and perform the 3 minute scan-down test. While this right of passage is important and binds everyone in the corporation a trial member that is not able to do this is not ready to be a full member.
  • The sponsors will make a forum post in the members forum indicating a request for advancement and reasons why. The following information is also helpful for those voting:
    • Does the member routinely participate in gangs, corp ops, pvp-u, etc? Are they on vent?
    • Discuss ship fitting and flying a hac/recon, interdictor, logistics or battleship.
    • Where does the member see themselves contributing in the future to Agony?
    • What are their goals/desires to FC? Have they demonstrated the ability to do this already?
  • The normal 7 day voting period will be commenced. Any legitimate no votes will be assessed individually by the directors.

In the case that a member is unable to get 3 sponsors for their interview they should contact their flight-leader or director for their timezone to discuss a plan.

Becoming a Core Member

Doing Admin is not the only way to become CORE MEMBERS but all CORE MEMBERS must share some of the admin work. If AGONY wants your input in CORE discussions but you're strictly a PVPer (I envy you but that's beside the point) you may be invited to become an ADVISOR (see above). Here are the main way's to become CORE MEMBERS...

These are the expectations of the core membership:

  1. Exceptional PvP fighter's and teachers
  2. Mentors, trainers and administrators
  3. Organizing and leading operations (inc logistics)
  4. PvP University
  5. All of the above

There are lots of ways to serve AGONY as a core member.

  • The first is to be an awesome PvPer who spends time developing tactics, passing on their knowledge and generally improving AGONY's fighting capability. (Rare).
  • Secondly, expending a great deal of time an energy mentoring, training and administering AGONY members to produce the fighting pilots we need to be a great PvP corp. Your work needs to significantly contribute to AGONY. You need to do this while being a skilled and active PvP pilot. Thirdly, you can lead, organize and execute operations. These can be major Fleets, regular gangs or logistics but they must be both necessary for AGONY and significantly improve our ability to PvP or accomplish major successes (winning big fleet battles).
  • Another path to core status is to take an active leadership role in the development of the PvP University. By becoming an instructor and actively promoting the interests of the PvP University, you are promoting the public image and furthering both the educational and recruitment goals of AGONY.
  • Finally, you can do some combination of the above where your efforts significantly contribute to AGONY's PvP capability and/or reputation.

Remember that all members contribute to AGONY. We've got a great bunch of people and they expect their leaders to be something above what is a very high average. To be considered for core status, you're contributions have to be significant and enduring. You need to show your dedication and ability to contribute over a period of many months.

On top of that, you have to be a leader. You've got to be a people person. You have to inspire people to join gang, start gangs, take the initiatiave, work out conflicts, draft tactics, organize logistics, become good/better mentors etc... It is a tall order in a game like Eve and in a corp with lots of strong personalities like AGONY. Nonetheless, core members bear the largest burden of the day to day leadership in AGONY.

The last consideration I have is trust. The Directors trust you to be able to carry the burden's of being core. Trust you to lead. Trust you to wield influence over our most valuable resource...our members.
