Introduction

There are a lot of misconceptions and rumors floating about concerning the mechanics of the Stealth Bomber bombs. This article will attempt to make this less confusing...


Max Number of Simultaneous Bombs

Confusion: How many bombs can we set off at once without them blowing each other up. I was listening in on vent and there seemed to be some confusion about the number of bombs you can safely launch simultaneously.

A bomb has 240 armor HP and 50 structure HP. Armor resist is 99,5% against its own damage type. No structure resist.

Bombs have a signature radius of 400. Their explosion radius is also 400, though, so there is no reduction in damage due to a small sig.

Bomb damage by CovOps skill level: I: 6720 II: 7040 III: 7360 IV: 7680 V: 8000

This is of course reduced by 99,5% I: 33.6 II: 35.2 III: 36.8 IV: 38.4 V: 40

240 / 40 = 6 which means that any bomb should be able to take exactly 6 lvl V bombs and still have structure left. In practice few of our bomber pilots have lvl V CovOps so the damage will be less. If all the bombing pilots have lvl I CovOps (highly unlikely) you can safely launch 7 bombs, but in all other cases 6 will be the max.

You should never be able to blow each others bombs up with 6 bombs. 7 taking own bomb into account.

How Bombs do damage

Myth: Bombs only take the top level resist in to account when doing damage. Truth:

I just tested it, and can confirm bomb damage does NOT just hit the top level resist.

My test:

Hound with covops 5, shrapnel bomb - 8000 base damage. Explosion radius 400.

Target was an unfit griffin - 50 sig radius, 50% exp resist on shield, 10% exp resist on armour.

Before resists, this gives a bomb damage of:

8000 / (400 / 50) = 1000 damage before resists.


If the bomb only hit the top resist, bomb damage would be:

1000 * 0.5 = 500 damage.


However, my combat log reported 509 damage.

My griffin has 488 shield HP. 488 / 0.5 = 976 damage required to take off all it's shields.

This leaves 24 damage left over to damage it's armour.

24 / 0.9 = 21.6 damage to armour.

488 + 21.6 = 509.6 (which in whole numbers, would report as 509).
