Introduction

Agony's rank structure is simple and to the point. There are a minimum number of ranks possible and enough roles to keep everyone busy. The organization is intentionally flat, everyone in Agony is expected to contribute and participate. While game mechanics require a ceo and directors, higher ranks do have decision making responsibilities, all members are expected to give input on corporate policy and actions.

Ranks

Game mechanics dictate at least three ranks: CEO, director and member. Agony has added an additional rank for new members.

  • CEO The buck stops here.
  • DIRECTOR A minimum of three active directors each covering one of the three major time zones.
  • CORE Full fledged Agony member. (All present LTC's.)
  • TRIAL New recruits. (All present Ensign's and LT's.)

Roles

Those individuals that take on corporate responsibilities to provide management/co-ordination of tasks that apply to the common good of the corp. Including but not limited to:

  • Hanger Manager
  • Procurement Officer
  • PVP-U Admin
  • Shipping/Logistics Coordinator
  • POS Coordinator
  • Wiki Master
  • Mentor Coordinator
  • Awards Committee Chair
  • Flight Leader
  • Recruiter

A listing of current roles and those filling them is available via a stickie on the corp forums. In-game titles are assigned to those filling roles.

Admin & Recruiters

  • ADMIN: forum/vent/wiki group that have complete forum/vent/wiki administrative capabilities. Will handle making permission changes, adding new users, etc. Includes CEO, Directors and others as needed, the fewer the better.
  • RECRUITER: forum group that have moderator access to the applications forum. And act as formal interviewers for applicants.

Awards/Decorations/Certifications

Agony pilots that have taken certification examinations or demonstrated their skills in a specific area will be awarded certification ribbons (shown beneath the player Avatar on the forum).

An Awards Committee monthly reviews pilot accomplishments to determine award recomendations that are forwarded to the directors. The Awards Committee will award in-game medals to those that have shown outstanding achievements or contributions.

Becoming a Member

When a person joins Agony they are given a rank of TRIAL. A new member's trial period will last a maximum of 60 days and they will be expected to be active contributing members of the corp. To become a CORE member a shortened certification process will be required along with the unanimous vote of the existing members (not all members are required to vote but a justified no vote will require director review). Those trial members who do not make full member within 60 days will be removed from the corp.

Competent General PVPer and/or PVP Specialist

The bar for becoming a core member is high and requires demonstrated abilities during your trial. General PVP skills are good but Agony is looking for specialists that excel in their chosen specialty. Specialties can include but are not limited to: skirmishing, recon, interceptors, logistics, FC, ewar and capital ships. Involvement in logistics and support of PVP-U are significant additions to the decision making process.

Fits In Agony

A very critical part is an assessment of how well the pilot fits Agony and, conversely, how well Agony fits the pilot. We are not looking for drama or primadonas. We are looking for people we like to fly with, that have fun and contribute.

Process To Become Full Member

During the 60 day trial, 3 full Agony members, or a Flight Leader or Director will sponsor a trial member to become a full member:

  • At least one of the sponsors will meet with the trial member and perform the 3 minute scan-down test. While this rite of passage is important and binds everyone in the corporation a trial member that is not able to do this is not ready to be a full member.
  • The sponsors will make a forum post in the members forum indicating a request for advancement and reasons why. The following information is also helpful for those voting:
    • Does the member routinely participate in gangs, corp ops, pvp-u, etc? Are they on vent?
    • Discuss ship fitting and flying a hac/recon, interdictor, logistics or battleship.
    • Where does the member see themselves contributing in the future to Agony?
    • What are their goals/desires to FC? Have they demonstrated the ability to do this already?
  • The normal 7 day voting period will be commenced.
  • At the conclusion of the voting process, if the voting was unanimous yes, the sponsor should post to the changes in-game thread with a link to the vote thread. If the voting was not unanimous, the sponsor should contact the director for the applicants timezone to discuss the promotion. Any legitimate no votes will be assessed individually by the directors. The director over the player's timezone has complete and final say in promotions.

In the case that a member is unable to get 3 sponsors for their interview they should contact their flight-leader or director for their timezone to develop a plan of action.

Filling a Role

There's lots to do in Agony on top of being a great pilot. Because of our decentralized and flat structure any member (core or trial) can take it upon themselves to form gangs and schedule ops. Core pilots can take on additional administrative/management/oversight roles in areas such as logistics, pvp-u, flight leaders, etc. Roles are not static in Agony, as the player base changes and peoples lives change, roles change. It is not uncommon for someone to fill a role, mentor their replacement and step aside. These roles require a level of trust, the Directors trust you to be able to carry the burden's of being in charge. Trust you to lead. Trust you to wield influence over our most valuable resource...our members (not to mention their assets for those in logistics).
